  • CAD (Computer Aided Design) 🌅
    Also referred as a presentation. Most of the time a computer generated presentation is used to visualise packaging/component concepts
  • 3D PRINT 🌅
    Using plastic filament to create any shape structure, e.g. lipstick.
  • CUTTER 🌅
    More commonly known as a DIELINE or Development NET. The cutter / dieline contains trim lines and when is cut, folded and glued together forms the three dimensional packaging.
  • VAC TRAY
    Plastic insert tray to hold component in box. Vacuum formed trays are manufactured by heating a sheet of plastic which is then stretched over a mould before being forced against it by a vacuum.
  • FITMENT / CARD FITMENT
    A card replacement for a Vac Tray. Usually a card folded structure which holds components in place inside the outer packaging.
  • INNER LINING 🌅
    Shiny (colour) mirror board.
  • ACETATE WINDOW 🌅 ✏️
    REQUIRED: YES / NO
  • ADD FEET 🌅
    Printer to add feet to the cutter supplied, enabling the box to stand up better.
  • TAMPER SEALS 🌅
    Clear labels to prevent packaging being opened.
  • WHITE SAMPLE 🌅
    Machine (factory)-made sample without print. Useful when we need to see things quickly, made to scale as close to production.
  • MOCK UP 🌅
    Simple, handmade artwork cut and glued together. Useful to send to customers so they can see what their product looks like / structure to scale.
  • SRP (Shelf Ready Packaging)
    SRP packaging tends to go straight from the factory to the retailer who uses that same shipping box as the point of sale unit.
  • CDU (Counter Display Unit)
    Same as SRP but these are commonly displayed on till counters for impulse buys.
  • DT (Display Tray)
    Either made completely of card or containing a plastic Vac Tray, DTs sit on the retailer’s shelves filled with the products.
  • PEEL & READ LABEL 🌅
    Peel & Read labels are made up of two or more layers that include printed information. This technique gives more space for product description that does not interfere with the design of the product label. This high-quality label allows you to peel, read and close the informational label as many times as needed.
  • INCI 🌅
    International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient (INCI) are systematic names internationally recognised to identify cosmetic ingredients.
  • BATCH LABEL 🌅
    Includes - AK number, Manufacturing date, etc. Label is normally positioned on the bottom of back of component.
  • CMYK
    Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black 4 colour process. It involves mixing varying proportions of these four colours to create full-colour printing.
  • PANTONE
    Selected spot colour from PMS - Pantone Matching System. PMS is a standardised colour matching system and each colour is assigned a unique code, allowing printers to precisely replicate the colour.
  • SPOT UV
    Clear varnish in matte or shiny finish over specific areas. Shiny UV will be obvious on matte surface not when its on a shiny surface.
  • HOT STAMP
    (aka FOIL STAMPING) A printing method of relief printing in which pre-dried ink or foils are transferred to a surface at high temperatures, only applied to a portion of the total printed surface.
  • EMBOSS
    Stamp out the surface of an object so that it is raised.
  • DEBOSS
    Stamp into the surface of an object so that it is indented.
  • SUBSTRATE
    The name given to the material that the design is printed onto.
  • STANDARD WHITE CARD 🌅
    Printers standard white card. A basic type of white cardboard often used for packaging purposes due to its versatility and moderate durability.
  • HARD BOX WHITE 🌅
    Paper over board. A rigid and sturdy type of white cardboard commonly used for constructing durable boxes and packaging that require extra strength.
  • CARD PALETTE 🌅
    Paper over board palette to hold godets, typically used for organising and presenting products in a flat and stable arrangement.

    Clear Plastic, often used in packaging to provide visibility of the product while offering protection and containment.
  • FLUTED CARD
    A type of cardboard with a corrugated layer sandwiched between two flat layers, providing strength and cushioning properties, commonly used in packaging for protection during transit.
  • UNCOATED TESTURED
    A surface finish of packaging material that lacks any additional coating or treatment, resulting in a natural, rough, or textured feel.
  • MIRROR BOARD
    A type of cardboard with a reflective surface, resembling the appearance of a mirror, often used for decorative purposes in packaging or displays.
  • GLOSS
    Gloss paper is smooth and has a shine to it.
  • MATTE
    Matte coated paper is a non-glossy, flat looking paper with very little sheen.
  • SATIN 🌅
    Satin coating is a less shiny coated finish. It has a lower gloss level than gloss finish, yet a higher gloss level than matte finish.
  • UNCOATED
    Uncoated paper does not have a coating to fill in between the fibers. It is generally rougher than coated paper and tends to be more porous, which makes it very absorbent.
  • FROSTED
    A semi-transparent finish that creates a frosted or cloudy appearance.
  • SOFT TOUCH
    A tactile finish with a velvety smooth texture, offering a luxurious feel.
  • HOT STAMP
    (aka FOIL STAMPING) A printing method of relief printing in which pre-dried ink or foils are transferred to a surface at high temperatures, only applied to a portion of the total printed surface.

    Looks matte, feels velvety.
  • BLOW MOULDED METALLIC PIGMENT
    Pigment in the plastic.
  • HOT STAMP
    See Hotstamp Book for each colour ref.
  • SPOT UV
    Matte / Gloss / Glitter etc E.g. Over text.
  • DEBOSS

    Might need double print to enhance the white.
